This was our biggest project to date. Thanks to a grant from the Forestry Commission via their Urban Tree Challenge we were able to plant an incredible 6,800 trees along Tornado Way. This was a tough project for us done with covid restrictions. It ticked so many boxes for us as not only did it increase tree cover and biodiversity, but it involved such a large number of volunteers and community groups who came to help. It also put more trees in an area of town that had the lowest number of trees which was important to us. There was also a historic element to this project too ; we worked with the Friends of the Stockton & Darlington Railway to ensure that the planting respected and recognised the original trackbed.
